EVIDENCE Part II: Signs of the Times

Today, I want to talk about something that will be a little challenging. There are a lot of things going on in the world today that are of great significance. Too many of us, even in the church, don’t understand that significance, failing to recognize the Signs of the Times.

This lack of understanding causes many to live either in fear of their circumstances or in ignorant and dangerous carelessness. We must be sober and recognize the EVIDENCE of the fulfillment of God’s Word.

In both the Old and New Testaments, there is a lot of prophecy that points towards the future. Much of it concerns the end of time and of the world as we know it. Jesus Himself talked a lot about it. Because of this, it’s been a growing concern to me that, despite this emphasis, it’s become very rare in recent years to hear this subject being preached from American pulpits.

Over the course of my lifetime, and even looking back over the last 2,000 years of history, I have never seen as many things coming together that point to a fulfillment of biblical prophecies about the “end times” as there seem to be currently. And, if we’re going to be a “full-Gospel” church, we need to know and talk about the Good News concerning these bad times, as well as the good times.

Now, just as Jesus said, no one knows exactly when He is going to return, but He did say that there will be signs that the end is near. Briefly, these include:

  1. The Rise of False Prophets - Matthew 24:5, 11
  2. The Escalation of World Wars - Matthew 24:6
  3. An Increase in Economic Warfare - Matthew 24:7a; Revelation 18:3, 9-11
  4. Increased Natural Disasters - Matthew 24:7b
  5. The Reestablishment of Israel - Matthew 24:32; Ezekiel 36:24; Matthew 24:33-34 (You can learn more about these signs by listening to or watching this past weekend’s message.)

All of these things have been happening and accelerating. And, I think we’d all agree that the first four of these signs aren’t good, at least in the natural, BUT there’s Good News! For those who are sober - aware of the Signs of the Times- and who have put their trust in God, we have this great promise:

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. (Psalm 91:7-11 NKJ)

Everywhere you look, there are signs pointing to the truth of God’s Word. The EVIDENCE is plain to see for anyone who is looking. The evil that is so prevalent in the news today can be a source of fear or of great hope. The question is, in whose word will you put your trust - man’s or God’s?
