Stories of Victory ~ Andre S.

After leaving my parents’ home and religious upbringing at the age of 18, I went through the ups and downs of living a life that I am not proud of. For over 17 years, I lived a life that was not pleasing to God, or to me. I walked away from my relationship with Him and made poor decisions that included getting involved in premarital sex and pornography.
In January 2001, I felt the Lord’s gentle call for me to return to him; to leave the life I was living and begin to walk in the life He always wanted for me. So, I woke up one morning and decided to attend a church service. I walked across the street from my home into a community church – it was the closest. During service, unexpectedly, I felt the Holy Spirit convicting me to return to my first love. I knew I was missing that one element of life I had known once – Jesus. With joy and peace, I accepted His invitation. Afterwards, I went home, told my girlfriend about the decision I made and informed her I would no longer have sex until I was married.
I came to Victory in April 2001 and walked into a life that I have never looked back on. I got into a great small group of people who loved, prayed and always encouraged me. I learned to accept the gift from God of accountability to help me stay sexually pure and make the right decisions for my life. This process has led me to where I am today.
The decision to accept accountability and community has changed my life tremendously. After living an isolated life for over 15 years, I was finally able to trust God’s love for me. I was taught that I was not created to do life alone. God’s love brought people around me who truly loved me and led me to marry my best friend.
Today, looking back at these decisions, they have led me to having a heart for single adult ministry, where my wife and I share the message that you can live a pure life in this sexually explicit culture and receive the blessings of God; blessings of love, courage, acceptance and guilt-free living.
I am so glad that I have stopped cheating myself with artificial love/dating as usual and walking beneath God’s concern for me. My choices made me attractive to the type of woman I always wanted to marry. I thank God for freedom and this new life with a wife that truly loves me and is His best for me!
Be encouraged, you can do this by God’s grace within His community! ~ Andre S.
